The Otemon Gakuin Educational Foundation, which started as an elementary school, was founded in 1888 and will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2008.
Our educational foundation has now evolved into a comprehensive academic institution that extends fromkindergarten through graduate school.

Otemon Gakuin University is a university of the humanities and social sciences located in Osaka, Japan.
The university was founded in 1966 and has been vigorously engaged in international exchange programs.
Based on our educational principle of "the cultivation of freedom, independence and self-reliance", the university has sent out into the world many individuals equipped with internationalperspectives.
The first overseas seminar was carried out in 1967 after the opening of the university.We started the first student exchange program in 1970 and the first faculty exchange program in 1997. The scope of our academic exchanges has now been expanded around the world.

The 21st century, referred to as a knowledge-based society, calls for the emergence of citizens who possess skills adaptable in the international arena.
Universities are also required to impart practical education, going beyond the mere acquisition of knowledge.
Otemon Gakuin University currently has five faculties: Economics, Management, Psychology, Sociology, and International Liberal Arts(Asian Studies and English).
Our graduate school programs help students deepen their academic pursuits and apply practical skills acquired in their undergraduate studies.

International students take Japanese courses based on individual proficiency levels and attend special classes in English conducted by teaching members of each faculty. A wide variety of extracurricular activities, both athletic and cultural, is available on campus to forge friendships with local students.
International students are also invited to visit affiliated schools ranging from kindergarten to high schools under the Otemon Gakuin Educational Foundation.
As part of our grass-roots international exchange, home-stay program and visits to Japanese companies are highly recommended, providing students with maximum exposure to local customs in a real-life setting.

Otemon Gakuin University, conveniently located with easy access to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe, stands on the green hillside of northern Osaka.The campus has modern IT-equipped buildings alongside a traditional teahouse, offering a unique space where the present intertwines with the past.
