Chronology

April / 1888 Otemon Gakuin was founded. It has its origins in the elementary school attached to Osaka Kaikosha, whose foundation was proposed in 1888 by Lieutenant General Tomonosuke Takashima, commander-in-chief of the Osaka Garrison.
April / 1966 Otemon Gakuin University opened with the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Economics; the Department of Psychological Social Sciences, the Department of East Asian History and the Department of English and American Language and Literature in the Faculty of Letters.
June / 1967 The Center for Australian Studies was established.
April / 1969 The Institute for Educational Research was established.
April / 1970 The Departments of Psychological Social Sciences and East Asian History were reorganized as the Departments of Psychology, Sociology and East Asian Cultures respectively.
April / 1971 The Department of Management was formed in the Faculty of Economics.
April / 1973 The Graduate School of Letters was established with the Graduate Course in Psychology (Master´s Course).
April / 1975 The Graduate Course in Sociology (Master´s Course) was added to the Graduate School of Letters.
April / 1977 The Graduate Course in Chinese Culture (Master´s Course) was added to the Graduate School of Letters.
April / 1979 The Graduate School of Economics was established with the Graduate Course in Economics (Master´s Course).
April / 1984 The Graduate Course in English (Master´s Course) was added to the Graduate School of Letters.
April / 1985 The Graduate Course of Business Administration (Master´s Course) was added to the Graduate School of Economics.
April / 1995 The Department of Management in the Faculty of Economics was upgraded to the Faculty of Management. The Departments of Psychology and Sociology in the Faculty of Letters were upgraded to the Faculty of Humanics. Comprehensive Center for Information and Language Education was opened.
April / 1998 The Faculty of Economics opened the Department of International Economics. The Faculty of Letters reorganized the Department of East Asian Culture into the Department of Asian Studies. The Faculty of Letters rename the Department of English and American Language and Literature to the Department of English.
April / 1999 The Faculty of Management opened the Department of International Management. The Graduate School of Economics opened a doctoral program in the Graduate Course of Business Administration.
April / 2000 The Graduate School of Economics opened a doctoral course in the Graduate Course of Economics.
April / 2004 Center for Psychological Research and Community Support.
April / 2005 The Faculty of Economics reorganized the Department of International Economics into the Department of Human Economy. The Faculty of Management reorganized the Department of International Management into the Department of Marketing.
April / 2006 The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Humanics was upgraded to the Faculty of Psychology. The Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Humanics was upgraded to the Faculty of Sociology. The Graduate Course of Business Administration in the Graduate School of Economics was elevated to the Graduate Course of Business Administration in the Graduate School of Business Administration. Venture Business Research Institute was founded.
March / 2007 Otemon Gakuin University celebrates the 40th anniversary.
April / 2007 The Department of Asian Studies in the Faculty of Letters was reorganized into the Department of Asian Studies in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts. The Department of English in the Faculty of Letters was reorganized into the Department of English in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts.
April / 2008 The Graduate Course of Psychology in the Graduate School of Letters was elevated to the Graduate Course of Psychology in the Graduate School of Psychology.
November / 2008 The Otemon Gakuin Educational Foundation celebrates the 120th anniversary.
October / 2009 Established Center for Learning Support and Educational Development.
April / 2012 Established Otemon Gakuin Institute for Integrated Education System.
Established Otemon Gakuin Institute for Regional Culture Development.
March / 2013 Established Otemon Gakuin University Publication Society.
April / 2013 Established Otemon Gakuin University Institute of Liberal Arts.
Otemon Gakuin Institute for Regional Culture Development becomes Otemon Gakuin University Regional Culture Development.
Center for Learning Support and Education Development divided into the Learning Support Office and the Center for Educational Development.

Educational Research Institute for Mind becomes an entity affiliated with University.
The Education Research Laboratory is dissolved and moved into the Coherent Cooperative Education Research Laboratory attached to the Gakuin.
May / 2014 Established the Center for Sports Research.
April / 2015 Established the Department of Regional Development Studies in the Faculty of Regional Development Studies.
Established the Center for Australian and Asian Studies by expanding and reorganizing the Center for Australian Studies.
June / 2015 Established the Research Center for Assertiveness Program.
Abolished the Center for Educational Development and established the Institute for Educational Development.
July / 2015 Opened the branch office of the Center for Psychological Research and Community Support.
October / 2015 Established the Center for Laughter and Humor Studies.
April / 2016 Renamed the Department of English in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts as the Department of International Liberal Arts in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts.
Reorganized the Institute for Comprehensive Educational Research into the Research Support and Community Liaison Department.
Reorganized the Institute for Regional Culture Development into the Center for Regional Development and Research in the Hokusetsu Area.

The Center for Mature Society Research was moved from Otemon Gakuin to become attached to the university.

The Graduate School of Psychology Graduate Course in Psychology doctoral course (second semester) was expanded and the Graduate School of Psychology Graduate Course in Psychology master course was renamed the Graduate School of Psychology Graduate Course in Psychology doctoral course (first semester).
